Deck of Cards Workout

I must still be in vacation mode, because I can’t seem to get myself to go to sleep early enough for proper sleep–it didn’t help that I was listening to a song I really liked and hadn’t heard until yesterday.  Rather than be even more exhausted today, I decided to give myself an extra half hour of sleep.  Naturally, I was rushed this morning; I had originally planned on doing an intense cardio video that my brother made for me from all my favorites, but it is a little over an hour, and I really didn’t feel like running to class so I decided to switch that with the workout I planned for Thursday.

So after I had some puffed wheat with raisins, milk and coffee, I warmed up with five minutes of a core routine and performed a Deck of Cards Workout:

No Equipment Deck of Cards WorkoutI only had one Joker in my deck and boy was I glad to see it after 3 high cards in a row with burpees popped up.  It took me about 20 minutes to complete this no-equipment, small space workout.  My heart rate got pretty high as I was trying to perform my reps as quick as possible.  I also added 1 additional twist with the jump squats: on odd numbers I did jump squats, but on even I did jump lunges.

This workout is great for dorm and hotel rooms; now you have no excuse not to workout on vacation :) And if you don’t have cards, you can either do 14 of every exercise and then 13 and so on until the last round when you do 2 of each or the reverse (take your 30 second break at random).

After cooling down, I took a speedy shower and ate some overnight oats with my homemade peanut butter, a chopped Honeycrisp apple, and some walnuts.  Then I rushed to class…guess the countdown is at 23 now?!

Do you workout on vacation? What is your standby?

I always try to workout on vacation and plan active vacations in the first place.  Since, many hotels we have visited charge for their gym (or only 1 person in the room can use it), I usually find things that I can do in the room that are quick and intense–think Tabata, circuit training, my Bodyweight 1200 Workout, and this Deck of Cards Workout.
