This morning I got my sleep schedule back on track (finally!). Woke up early, in the dark, and well before the rest of the family. I had a bowl of overnight oats and a cup of coffee for breakfast. I leisurely flipped through some magazines until I was ready for my long run. It is super hilly by my house and since I have gotten so used to running in NYC, I wasn’t comfortable doing a long run here. Enter the treadmill.
Armed with some new music and a handful of dried fruit, I went to the basement for my workout. After a short standing core circuit, I began on the treadmill for a 12 mile run (longest both indoor and outdoor).
12 miles on the treadmill=DEDICATION (or crazy if you ask my brother)
Yesterday, I had been rolling my feet over a tennis ball to work out some kinks (sooo painful–no one else in my family found it painful, guess it is a runner thing). Today, I am pleased to say that they felt fresh and I was able to complete the run with a few unrelated hiccups! The treadmill decided to turn itself off after I hit 100 minutes–just thankful I heard the beep over my music and was able to jump off. It took a while to restart, but I guess it was the equivalent of getting stuck at a light during a run in the streets. This was the first time I have ever eaten during a run; it helped, but it was strange to eat and drink on the treadmill.
Once I finally finished, I walked around and stretched (I actually felt more flexible in my hamstrings today, which is unusual after a run). My whole shirt was sweaty, and I could not wait to shower. Today was definitely a mental victory over the treadmill; I was a little worried about running so long on it, but Thursday’s run felt fine, so I just went in believing it would be a good run–usually works.
I was very hungry after, so I made myself a very unappealing looking bowl of oatmeal. Oats cooked in milk and egg whites. Topped off with chia seeds which we found for super cheap yesterday at Costco (2lbs for less than $10!), cocoa powder, sweet potato, and almond butter. At the very least, it was very filling.
Yesterday we never got around to decorating, so hopefully today is the day.
Do you ever eat on a run? What is the longest you have run on a treadmill?
